When I close my eyes all the stars align

Cardigan - 6ks // Necklace - ShopLately // Jeans - PacSun // Top - H&M

~

I'm about to go back to school soon...very soon :( This has definitely been one of the most unproductive breaks ever...mostly spent on the couch intensely reading; which somebody please tell my dad that binge reading is a lot better than binge watching shows (which I fell victim to last winter break oops) so I can feel better about what I accomplished this break haha. Besides not accomplishing anything I planned, I DID plan a lot of things in my head. Haha I really need to practice on my skills of actually executing plans.

Anyways, change in topic. Last summer, I started to discover where my interest lies in fashion design. As you all know, I'm studying fashion design and although its already a pretty specific field, I never truly realized how many paths you can take in just fashion design alone. To be honest, I spent a lot of sophomore year lost in what I truly wanted to do. I was starting to discover that I'm not the most creative in my grade and especially since I go to a school that really pushes conceptual ideas, I found that I wasn't really able to keep up with my classmates. I still feel a bit behind compared to many of my peers who are starting to find their "brand" and style in their design and presentation. I know that its ok to still be discovering your likes and experimenting, since you only truly get to do what you really want to do in school when there are no expectation or boundaries. But it's also frustrating when it seems like everyone around you is forging ahead with a clear goal in mind while you're still unsure if you're cut out for this industry. Since I'm not the most creative, I found that I could become a technical designer, a good compromise to satisfy my desire to be in the fashion industry and my somewhat lack of creativity. Plus, I seem to get Adobe a lot better than I can wrap my head around collections and the whole design process........ So this has pretty much turned into a huge rant of some sorts and where I'm going with this is that in the past year, I think I found my calling! And that would be accessories. After interning at the leather harness place, taking shoe design and millinery, I realize now that maybe I'm meant to be in the accessories field rather than clothing field. And moral of the story is that I would love to start posting more DIYs and such. So if you guys made your way to the end of this post, then please let me know what you think! :) You're  more than welcome to comment suggestions! I would totally love to do sewing or hat making or working with leather posts so if you have ever wanted to learn something, let me know!

  5. You could do DIYs on hatmaking?! that sounds absolutely bomb haha. I'm on the same boat with you in terms of what I want to do as a career since my major and field require a pretty specific skill set. It's pretty awesome that you're a step closer than you were last year though and you can still stay along the same lines of your original field. I know way too many people who picked entirely different careers from what they majored in and had to start from scratch and although I'm sure a lot of skills are universal and can be applied to a lot of things, it's still nice to be able to go into a career based on what you studied in college. Anyway haha if you made a series on accessory DIY I would eat that up. I look forward to it Kat!

  18. Psh, reading is SO much better than binge show-watching! Props to you girl :)
And that rant is something I can relate to - sometimes I feel like I'm not as creative as my classmates. Being in the art field is tough! But I'm so glad you've discovered your calling and can definitely see you forging into the technical aspect of fashion design.
I'd love to see hat making here!

  19. I did make it to the end of the post ( it wasn't very long and I even wouldn't mind a longer one since I'm pre- facebook generation and that 'one-line' way of expression).

...and I think making accessories is a great idea. I would also say you shouldn't feel bad about not having a set style or 'brand idea'. Try new things and experiment...creativity can mean being attracted to many different styles and besides some build their personal style on diversity.

I do like this outfit btw! I like its simplicity...and the necklaces adds a bit of urban feel to it.

  38. I really love the honesty in this post - sometimes as a blogger, I feel like I lack the creativity, compared to some of the more successful bloggers out there. It's funny because I work in the political scene and they're not exactly known for high-fashion so I definitely feel more stylish than some of my co-workers but it's kind of like big-fish-in-small-pond, you know? I totally get where you're coming from and I think it's great that you found your niche in an industry you're obviously very passionate about.
Now onto your outfit - I'm super in love with the cozy and edgy look! I really love your necklace and that cardigan looks so comfy!

  43. I don`t think you`re lacking for creativity, it`s just all about fashion industry that is so competitive and tough, all those beautiful creations are hours and hours of hard work and then you realize they are so-last minute! Millinery is my hobby too, would be great if you post DIYs on accessories (you`ve got great ones in your shop!) x
