I've been thinking about dying the tips of my hair purple (like the girl below). I've never dyed or permed or anything my hair before so I'm kinda scared :P Does anyone have any advice? Like I read somewhere that to get the best results, especially since my hair is soooo dark, you should bleach it first. The thing is, as much as I hate change, I know I'm going to get tired of it after a few months. I want something that won't last forever and won't damage my hair too much. Does the dye like go away? or is the only way to get rid of it is to cut your hair or redye that part? and also, do you guys think I could pull this off? :P The beautiful girl below (btw her name is Dani and she has the awesome blog, Kastor and Pollox. i love, but am also kinda scared for her hair, that her tips are a different color in almost every post!) Anyways, back to what I was saying, I feel like its such a punk?-ish color and I am in no way a punk-ish/cool/rocker chic kinda gal. Or maybe I just automatically assume that about this color now because of Dani? So yea I hope you read all this and leave a comment telling me what you think! I know, i'm a worry wart...but hey I'm only thinking about whats best for my hair :P oh shoot, I just realized I didn't ask my mom if I can dye my hair :O hehe I shall find a way to convice in favor of it!
Your outfit is so adorable!! I really love the cut out oxfords!! And floral print and knee high socks are always a must I think :)

Big fan of the cardigan!
ReplyDeleteI've never dyed, permed, or something to my hair before either.
I know that you can put straight hydrogen peroxide in a bottle and spray it. It doesn't damage your hair or anything as long as you take care of it, and use an oil before and after you spray (like coconut oil, etc.)
You can always grow it out, and if you're doing the tips, you can cut it off.
That's all I know. Hope it was helpful!

so cute!! love the cardi! :)
ReplyDeleteAs for your hair, so cool! do it!! :) Maybe you should ask her if she uses temporary dye.. it goes out after 6-8 washes! but your right, your hair is dark! hmm! maybe you should go to a hairdresser? or just go and ask them hehe ;)
i have been highlighting my hair (with hydrogren peroxide) since i was ... hm. 17 maybe? so around 3 years, and i have seen the effects of it on my hair! :/ now it's hard for me to brush it when it's wet and im constantly conditioning it! but then again my hair was really weak to start with and i've been doing my whole head and also to a very light color initially.. so that is completely different as well!
buit because you just want your tips i think you have nothing to worry about! if you wont want it anymore in a few months your hair will grow anyway so you can just cut it off and voila, back to your old hair!:)
hope it helped a bit ! :)

You pull off this outfit so well.
ReplyDeleteI have dyed my hair wild colors before and I loved it. Here are the two different ways I have done it
One: I had a professional bleach the tips of it and then she dyed it purple. I didn't do quite as much as the girl in the photo so when the purple faded out I had just white bleached tips. So you'll have to keep dying it over where the bleach is. I ended up just cutting them off when I was done because it wasn't very much.
Two: I bought a kit from WalMart that is specifically made for dark hair to become a certain color. I don't remember the brand, but I did one streak of pink and it was pretty easy, but like the purple it faded fast and left a little blonde streak. It wasn't as noticeable because my natural hair is blondish brown, but if you wanted to keep doing it that way it'd be pretty cheap.
Whew that was lots of information, but I hope it helped!

I love your floral dress! so cute

I think you should definitely talk to some specialists and hear what they think or which advice they give. dying definitely affects the condition of your hair and that's why I stopped doing it in the beginning of this year. now I only let a proper hairdresser do some highlights in my hair once or twice a year. and my hair is so much better than before when I dyed my whole hair. so, be absolutely sure before you do it ;)
ReplyDeleteanyway, the outfit looks great on you. love the cardigan :)

ReplyDeleteSince I'm working with children I rather sticking my hair in one color..
Anyway you look cute & girly again ^^ like a doll!

Kat darling you are just so stylish and adorable. I wish blogs were popular in the 80's when I was a teenager. The clothing I could have posted....authentic 80's. Joyce Leslie was all the rage for trendy brands. All of my friends were on dancing on air which has been showing lately on tv. Anyway, you look so well put together and hip in this post. Try the spray on stuff first and see if you even like it. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo

The second pic is darling and that lipstick is PERFECTION on you!!! LOVE the red. Puts me in holiday mood!!
ReplyDeletewww.plentyforpennies.com
First off, if you outfits get any cuter!!!! OMG, another LOVE fit :)
ReplyDeleteAnd!! Who cares if the purple is a "punk" look. If you like it, totally go for it!!! I dyed just the underneath of my hair black and because my hair is red my boss asked me if I went punk on her (as a tease) I'm wayyyyy too girly to be a punk lol.
As far as being able to dye your hair back. Yes you can :) Once you get bored of it, dye it back. My step brother is a hair stylist and when I went to get highlights put in my hair he did warn me that if I had dyed my hair in the last three months, dying it again could damage my hair (as in fry). But he said that they have so many products out now to help prevent that you should be okay. I would just call or ask a stylist about your concerns. Advice is free :)
But I dyed my hair lighter (just to get a different look) and they had to bleach the pieces that I wanted lighter. So yes, you probably will have to bleach it.
Hope this helps!
And no worries, your worries are natural. I went through the same panic when I thought about dying my hair :)
First of all, I love your outfit! It's very girly and cute :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, about the hair... I've honestly done everything with my hair (from blonde, to red, to brown, to black, then back to blonde, etc. Really bad, I know!), and the problem is, like you were saying, after a little while I always get bored with my hair and want to do something else... But at the same time, if you don;t try it, it's going to haunt you forever (well, it happens to me anyways :). So I say go for it! The only thing, try to talk to people who've already done that (can you maybe ask Dani herself?)
xoxo Olga

Very cute outfit! I think you should just dye the tips reddish brown. I don't think it will ruin your hair, because the tips can always get trimmed!

You are so pretty. I love your entire outfit. Especially the over the knee socks. They are perfect.
ReplyDeleteAs for hair coloring, I suggest going to a place like Sally's and getting the coloring you spray in and it only lasts until you wash your hair a time or two. I have gotten it before (in pink) and it works really well.
Love the dress and the red cardigan! perfect outfit.

Hello Kat! That's a pretty little dress and I love the knee high socks which just makes this outfit uber cute!
ReplyDeleteJust go for it girl! That purple hair end looks really cool. I think whether u can carry that hair off depends on your outfits too. The girl rocked the purple hair with her punkish style. So it may be a great way to explore the styles with the new hair!

So cute. Just dye it! I'm sure she'll get used to it. :)

If you really want a change trying a different colour once is a good option. However do remember that the tips are usually the driest part of your hair. When I had highlights they had to bleach the hair then use the caramel shade I wanted.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet comment... Love your blog! Following you :)

My hair is super dark too. I dip dyed it grey. I got it done at a salon and she first bleached it white then toned it grey and added lilac. The only problem with colors like that is that they fade quickly and youll have to re dye it every week. So I let the lilac fade but I love the grey. It did damage my hair a lot though so Im glad I was cautious and only did a few inches!
ReplyDeletelove your look! your hair is amazing, i have always wanted to try this look but have never had the guts! That jacket is divine, so edgy and chic!
